Traffic was even worse on the way back. It took another hour-and-a-half to get home. I was greeted by a wildly anxious dog who hadn't gone out yet that morning because, as the message left by my husband said, it was "too cold." Walked our dog, Skippy, shoveled the drive.... I am tired and starved.
The plate of banana muffins my mother gave me yesterday after I took my dad for his weekly blood tests is--gone. Someone left a few crumbs. The box of healthy, organic, high-fiber, sugar-free whole grain cereal is not empty, but stale.
I make a toasted bacon sandwich (I know it's not that good for me) and realize I've left the filter coffee maker set for 2 cups instead of one. Coffee is spilling over the rim of the cup, all over the kitchen counter and the floor.
Clean up, turn on the radio--the morning deejays are relating the latest gossip about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who is said to be one of the Most Beautiful Girls in the World, even though she doesn't look a bit like my sister Sandra, who has always had the Most Beautiful title.
Angelina apparently spends her time, when she is not being a movie star, doing good works around the world . She is raising her many children with the help of numerous support staff and sometimes, Brad Pitt.
I wonder if she's ever had to drive a grouchy teen to Canlan Icesports in a snowstorm in the morning dark. Has anyone ever seen her fall on her bum on the driveway but not lose her grip on the ice scraper? Would Brad Pitt dare to eat her banana muffin?
I flip open the National Post while I eat my sandwich. Spice Girls have performed their first concert in Vancouver! David Beckham has given them all matching bracelets! Posh Spice looks like she has never, ever eaten a toasted bacon sandwich.
I have four tickets for one of the Spice Girls' shows, which my daughter and her friends are using. They were about nine years old when Spice Girls were first popular. That Christmas (maybe for a Girl Guides project, I forget,) a group of them got together and baked "Ginger Spice Girls," instead of Gingerbread Men.
Today I'm posting my mom's Banana Muffin recipe and the one we used for Ginger Spice Girls, with my happy dog sleeping at my feet. My coffee is actually good. The house is warm. We're going to have a really good day, starting now.
