Make an impression of a pet's paw to hang as an ornament on the Christmas tree. Because this mixture contains salt, wipe the pet's paw afterward so your dog doesn't lick the salt. You might roll out the dough onto parchment paper so you can put the paper on the floor to make the impression of the dog's paw. Tip: distract your dog with a treat while you make the impression so it isn't tempted to taste the dough. If you have a co-operative cat, you might be able to get a cat print too.
Mix together to form a dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup table salt
- 1 cup water
Roll out dough.
Press the dog's paw into the dough to make a print.
You can also carve the dog's name around the pawprint.
Use a cookie cutter bigger than the print and the name to cut a shape around the paw print, or cut a shape around it with a knife.
Use a spatula to place the cut-out ornament onto a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Make a hole near the top of the ornament (to attach a string later).
Bake in preheated 250 degree F. oven for 2 hours or until done.
Decorate when the ornament is completely cool.
You can leave the ornament sitting for several days to really harden.
Use acrylic paints to paint edging around the print, highlight the pet's name.
Brush with clear glue and sprinkle with glitters if desired.
Tie a string through the hole to hang the ornament on your Christmas tree (high enough so that your dog won't try to eat it!)
