Marilyn's Apple-Bottom Cake

This is one of my mom's favorite cake recipes. Marilyn usually uses Mcintosh apples, but has also used Golden Delicious and Granny Smith in this recipe.

Apple bottom:
  • 5 apples
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp flour

Cake batter:

  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
Grease a 9 X 13" pan.
Wash and peel the apples and slice into the pan.
Sprinkle with a mixture of 1/4 cup sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon and 1 tbsp. flour.
Dot with butter.

In a large bowl, mix 2 eggs, 4 tbsp melted butter and 1/2 cup milk.
Add 2 cups flour sifted with 1 cup sugar, 2 tbsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt.
Cover apples with this dough and bake in preheated 350 degrees F oven for 35 minutes.
