Saving Money on School Textbooks

I thought most people already knew this--but the following advice was new to my friend Penny. I've been saving some money on high school textbooks by copying the ISBN number of the required books from the booklist and pasting the number into a web search like Google. If you search by ISBN number you'll get the links of sellers who have the exact edition or volume needed for the class in their online catalogues, as well as the publisher's catalogue information. Penny was pleased to find that by searching online and comparing the prices of used booksellers, she could save quite a bit of money--she even decided to return a book she'd already purchased from a bookstore, as the saving made the inconvenience of going back to return the more expensive book well worthwhile. Ordering used texts online not only saves you money--you save on gas by getting the books delivered right to your home. So far, all the books we've ordered have arrived in the described condition (or better)-- and within a few days. Just remember to check on availability of shipping to your area, on estimated shipping times, and on the shipping costs--you might not save much money if you order from a seller in another country.
