French fries and "white food" = Cancer Risk

In September, 2005 Prevention magazine quoted Mack Ruffin, MD, a medical researcher at the University of Michigan Cancer Center as saying, "A diet of french fries and white bread is comparable to smoking a pack of cigarettes a day in raising your cancer risk,"since "white food" like potatoes, white bread and white rice lack critical nutrients your body needs to fend off tumors.

Ruffin advised substituting the "white" food in your diet with "5 to 9 richly colored fruits and vegetables every day, such as carrots, grapefruit, green beans, tomatoes and plums."

I wonder how much healthier I would be now, if I had followed Ruffin's advice for every meal since 2005.
