Washing a Thick Bathmat

Sad Bathmat Dripping in Laundry Tub
An extra-thick, 100% cotton bathmat can be too heavy for some washing machines, which will clunk and stall once the mat soaks in water.

Then the only way to wash it is by hand, in a laundry tub.

After soaping and rinsing, squeeze as much water out of it as you can. Place it between thick towels in your bathtub, and squeeze the rest of the moisture out with your feet.

You will wish you had Great-Granny's old wringer washer!

Hang to dry outside, if possible.  Next time, buy a bathmat that is:
  • Thin and light
  • non-slip
  • Washable or recyclable and inexpensive.
  • Patterned to hide spots
  • Bamboo if you have pets who might treat a softer material like a section of sod
