No burger buns? If you have bread in the house, make a patty melt, a grilled cheese sandwich with a burger in the middle.
You'll need 2 skillets, a large one and a smaller cast iron one wrapped in foil to press down the sandwiches.
Suggestion: serve with a salad instead of fries, because each sandwich is about 655 calories with 40.5 grams of fat.
Mix:
- 1 lb. regular ground beef
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper.
- 8 slices bread, spread one side with mayonnaise or butter or margarine
- 6 thin slices swiss or cheddar cheese
- 6 processed cheese slices
- 1 cup peeled, sliced onions
Season ground beef and shape into 4 flat patties slightly larger than a slice of the bread you have on hand.
Cook patties in skillet on medium-high, 2 minutes per side, transfer to plate.
Wipe grease from skillet, set heat to medium-low.
In 2 batches, place 2 slices of bread, greased side down, in skillet.
Top each slice of bread with 1-1/2 slice swiss or cheddar cheese, then beef patty, then 1/4 cup cooked onions, then 1-1/2 slice processed cheese, then 2nd slice of bread, greased side up.
Place a small skillet wrapped in aluminum foil on top of sandwiches.
Press down and cook until bread is golden brown and crisp, 3 minutes per side.
