In this recipe, batter is dropped into a hot sugar sauce and then baked.
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp shortening, cut in like pie crust
Add:
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
Mix together then add:
- 3/4 cup sour milk (or buttermilk)
- 1/2 cup nuts
Set aside.
In a 9 x 13 inch baking pan, stir:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2-1/2 cups boiling water
Drop cake mixture by spoonfuls into hot sauce evenly.
Bake in preheated 350 degree F oven for 1 hour.
Let cool slightly and serve with light cream or ice cream.
