Nan's Cookie-Cutter Shortbread
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup icing sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 cups pre-sifted bread flour
- Leave butter on the counter until it's soft, at room temperature.
- With a wooden spoon, stir in sugar, salt, nutmeg and egg yolk.
- Add flour a little at a time.
- Dough will be stiff to stir with the spoon.
- Turn onto a floured board and knead lightly to draw in all the flour, just until the dough just begins to crack.
- With a wooden rolling pin, roll out the dough to 1/4" thick.
- Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter.
- Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake in preheated 350 degree F oven for 10 minutes.
