COLLEGE OR MOVING PACK LIST

At least four people have used this list to get ready to move into residence or off-campus housing.
Add kitchen supplies if you'll have access to one.
Check that your electronics are working and you have chargers, cords, power bar and extension cords before you leave.
Get organized days before you are to go away so you're not up late the night before packing and sleep-deprived the day of the move. You're usually kept busy with activities from the moment you arrive.

PACKING:
  • Cover clothes on hangers in clear plastic bags, tied with twist ties.
  • Rubbermaid containers or laundry baskets or boxes with hand-holds cut in the sides are easy to carry up flights of stairs if elevators are busy or non-existent.
  • Take a small carry-on bag for weekend trips.
  • If arriving by car, it's easier to fold clothes into disposable cardboard boxes and move folded stacks directly into drawers. A large suitcase takes up storage space.
  • If  moving a small fridge or anything with drawers, tape them shut. Clear hockey shinpad tape is more flexible than packing tape.
  • Bring a friend or parent to help you move in.
  • If someone drives you, tell them not to plan to drop you off and go away. You might have to stand in a line-up to get your residence package/keys and need someone to watch the stuff you've left on the curb. You also won't be able to get all your things to your room in one load. Your room-mate might not arrive the same day you do. You might be grateful to have someone you know around to go out for lunch with, after you move in and before you meet everyone and activities start.

If you are moving in with room-mates, you will run out of toilet paper sooner than you think.
Decide how you will split the cost of shared essentials like toilet paper, dish detergent, paper towels and cleansers.

Think you won't need a toilet plunger? A roommate had decided to save money on the water bill by only flushing when necessary. Since the other room-mate whose turn it was to buy the toilet paper hadn't, the toilet bowl was clogged with facial tissues and was overflowing.

Could I come help? And stop on my way to buy a plunger? And a pail? And some rags or a mop to clean up the mess?
