Help for Haiti

Everyone is talking about the devastation in Haiti since the recent earthquake--and wondering what they can do to help. The Canadian government is matching private monetary donations made to relief organizations. My husband's company pitched in and donated thousands of dollars. On a personal level, what can you do if you're on an austerity budget yourself?

It's easy to donate at stores like Costco and Walmart which are asking shoppers to donate what they can in the check-out line--just add what you can to your bill. I gave $2 to the Red Cross at Costco--if everyone gave just $2, think how much money there would be for the relief effort!

If you can't afford even $2, volunteer your time. Check your local newspapers for bake sales and other fundraising events being organized in your community. If you don't have anything to donate to sell, volunteer your time to work at these events.

Do some good for others--it feels good.
