Is Your House Contaminated with "Dirty Electricity"?

Yesterday I replaced the burnt out 40-watt light bulbs in the fan over my stove with a couple energy-efficient compact fluorescents that had been delivered free to my home as part of a hydro promotion.  After doing this, I glanced into the family room and noticed my daughter had fallen asleep in front of our old TV set,  her cell phone still in the hand she'd tucked under her cheek.  According to W. Gifford-Jones, all three--compact fluorescents, the TV, and the cell phone--are sources of "dirty electricity" that can cause "unexplained aches and pains, depression, sleepiness, ringing in the ears, headaches, and a foggy brain"--even "brain malignancy".

In his article "Dirty Electricity: Worse for Kids" (The Epoch Times, Sept 23-29, 2010, p. B3) Dr. Gifford-Jones, a Toronto medical practitioner and health writer, says that when household electrical current is transformed into low-voltage power for electronic devices, micro surges of electricity are created that cause a negative health impact.  He warns, "Unless we get smart with cell-phone use, we may have a tsunami of brain cancers years from now, as damaged DNA takes years to cause malignancy."

How can you protect yourself and your family from possible harm?

His recommendations:
  • Don't buy a home near a cellphone tower.
  • Replace all dimmer switches in your home with regular light switches.
  • Don't use low-voltage halogen tubes or energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights.
  • Replace your old TV with a new LCD TV.
  • Stand at least 5 feet away from an operating microwave oven, or leave the kitchen.
  • Get rid of your cordless landline phone (emits dirty electricity even when not in use.)
  • Turn on cellphones only to check messages and return calls.
  • Don't sleep with a cellphone under your pillow or anywhere near your head.
  • Don't carry a cellphone in your pocket (decreases sperm count)
  • When using a cellphone, to keep it away from your head, use the speakerphone
  • Limit cellphone texting ("This practice just radiates a different part of the body.")
