1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2-1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp powdered ginger
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream till light and fluffy: butter, shortening, brown sugar, molasses, egg.
Sift together dry ingredients and combine with creamed batter.
Form dough into walnut-sized balls.
Press balls into flat circles with floured fingers or back of a spoon, on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 minutes in preheated 350 degree F oven or till golden brown.
Cool, remove from cookie sheet and store in covered container.
