Nut Topping
Stir together until crumbly:
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup room-temperature butter
- 2 Tbsp smooth peanut or almond butter
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
Sprinkle over muffin or cake batter before baking.
Crumble Topping
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 4 Tbsp rolled oats (oatmeal)
- 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 4 Tbsp cold butter
Stir together the dry ingredients and cut in the butter until crumbly.
Substituting flaked coconut for the oatmeal also works.
Try adding:
- chopped nuts
- flaked coconut
- chopped dried apple
Sprinkle over plain coffee cake or muffins before baking.
Pre-Cooked Streusel Topping for Pancakes or Sundaes or Applesauce
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp. light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Combine oats, flour and brown sugar on a small rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Drizzle with butter and toss ixture to coat.
- Bake in preheated oven, opening the door to stir occasionally, until golden brown, 15-20 minutes.
- Let cool.
Streusel will keep about 1 week stored airtight at room temperature.
Sprinkle on a stack of pancakes and drizzle with syrup.
