Streusel Topping

Nut Topping

Stir together until crumbly:

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup room-temperature butter
  • 2 Tbsp smooth peanut or almond butter
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
Sprinkle over muffin or cake batter before baking.

Crumble Topping
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp rolled oats (oatmeal)
  • 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp cold butter
Stir together the dry ingredients and cut in the butter until crumbly.
Substituting flaked coconut for the oatmeal also works.
Try adding:
  • chopped nuts
  • flaked coconut
  • chopped dried apple
Sprinkle over plain coffee cake or muffins before baking.

Pre-Cooked Streusel Topping for Pancakes or Sundaes or Applesauce

  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Combine oats, flour and brown sugar on a small rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Drizzle with butter and toss ixture to coat.
  4. Bake in preheated oven, opening the door to stir occasionally, until golden brown, 15-20 minutes.
  5. Let cool.
Streusel will keep about 1 week stored airtight at room temperature.
Sprinkle on a stack of pancakes and drizzle with syrup.
